Romans 7:24-25

Romans 7:24-25 - “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

“What a wretched man I am!” Paul has come to the end of himself. He sees what he is without God and it does not look good. It is the same for us as we get a glimpse of our sinful nature and realize that in our own ability we have no power over it. Sin separates us from God and brings death and if we look within ourselves there is no hope.
We find ourselves crying out to God and Paul did, “Who will rescue me from this body of death?” Thankfully we have an answer; thankfully we have Jesus.
Jesus takes our sin and brings us back to God. It is more than any of us deserve or could even ask for, but God made it possible because He loves us. He also gives us the ability to resist sin and temptation. All it takes is for us to recognize that we cannot do it on our own.
There is no way we could do it on our own. That is why we need Jesus, and Jesus will not disappoint. When we cry out as Paul does in this verse Jesus rescues us. Because He died on the cross and took our sin we are set free from it. He took it all upon Himself.
Now we don’t have to live in sin any longer. We are free to live according to the Spirit of God which we now find inside us. Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord.
