2 Corinthians 9:10

2 Corinthians 9:10 – Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.

In this chapter Paul talks about giving. He tells us that “he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” Then he continues on with this verse. Now I want you to take a look here at what Paul is saying, “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food.” Of course the “He” is referring to God, because He is our provider, but take a look at what He is providing. There are two things listed here.
God provides “seed” to the sower and “bread for food.” So we have seed and bread. Think about that for a moment. Bread of course is for eating, so we know that our food is provided for, but we also have seed. Have you ever tried to eat seed? Some seeds may be good to eat, but one thing it’s not is filling. You would have to eat a lot of seed to get a full stomach, plus we already know that we have “bread” to eat. No, God gives you the seed for one purpose and that’s for sowing.
When you eat seed it does not go very far, but if you sow it; that is another story. That’s when you see what the seed is really good for. Put it into the ground and it will produce a plant. Then that plant will not only produce food, but also a lot more seeds. You plant all those and your seed increases exponentially.
So we see that God gives us what we need to live, but He also gives us what we need to give. Make sure that you recognize what God has put in your life as seed, because we all have it. If you eat your seed you will lose it. It will only reproduce and multiply if it is sown. If you sow it you will see it increase, just as this verse tells us.
Be generous and make sure you sow the seed that God gives you. As you do that you will see your seed increase and you will then, in turn be able to sow more. Proverbs tells us that “A generous man will himself be blessed.” In an effort to see this principle at work in your life, find someone today that you can bless. As you purpose to be more generous it will become more natural in you.
