Matthew 20:26-27

Matthew 20:26-27 - Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.

God’s kingdom is not like the kingdoms of this world. In the world the countries that have kings and even our country with the president have it all wrong. We have it setup to where we have the one in charge and then everyone else serves him and does what he wants. He has servants and the people under him and he feels that they should cater to his every need.
This is not the way God would have it. We see the example of Jesus as the way it should be. Jesus is the King of kings, but it did not reflect in His attitude. He did not lord it over those around Him and expect them to serve His every need. In fact it was quite the opposite.
It was actually said of Jesus that ‘He did not come to be served, but to serve.’ And His life reflected this statement. We see Jesus, who is Lord over all, become the biggest servant, to the point of kneeling down and washing His disciples feet.
From Jesus example we know that those who will be the best leaders will also be the biggest servants. Leadership is influence and you can’t be a positive influence on someone who does not want to follow you.
Just because someone has a position of leadership does not mean they are a leader. People will follow you when they know you care for them. As a leader you ought to find what people need and work to meet those needs. Serve them and they will follow you.
