Acts 25:11 - If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by those Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!
Paul was not afraid of death. In fact, there were times when he talked about how much better death would be than life. He said that if he ‘departed’ he would be with Christ, which would be better by far. Paul knew, though, that his work on earth was not yet complete. God had told him that he would stand before Caesar and now he was going to get that opportunity.
In looking at Paul’s life we can see that he was just an ordinary man that was sold out to Jesus. He understood that when he died he would be with Jesus and what he did while still on earth would affect eternity. Having this attitude allowed him to become one of the most influential Christians who ever lived.
Many people don’t think that they could ever live like Paul lived. They somehow think that he was some kind of ‘super-apostle’. In reality, though, he was just an ordinary man who was sold out for Jesus. He had made a decision that he would spend his life on earth glorifying God and doing His will.
You can do that too! First you need to understand as Paul did, “To live is Christ, to die is gain.” Don’t fear death, but trust God that it will come at the right time. And know that when it does come it will be glorious. Until then, do everything you can to bring others with you, not to death, but to eternal life. Be eternity minded.
