1 Corinthians 7:20 - Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.
Do you understand that you have been called by God? Each and everyone of us has a specific plan that God has called us to. He laid out this plan for us before we were born and He has been waiting for us to answer the call. There are specific things that He will have us do, but really what it comes down to is living a life that glorifies Him.
Most of the time God is not looking for you to drop everything you are doing at the time that you answer the call. To be sure, if you are sinning, repent and turn from that. That’s not what I am talking about. What I mean is things like your job, your family, maybe even your friends. Occasionally God calls a person to leave everything, like He did to the disciples, but most of the time we are ‘to remain in the same situation as when we are called.’
Our situation is actually a little different than the disciples. See, they had to leave everything in order to walk with Jesus. We do not. When we meet Jesus we can have Him come inside us and He will walk with us in whatever we are doing. To be sure, if your current job is sin, or causes you to sin, then leave it, but most of our jobs can be done with integrity and according to God’s law. You may, however, have to change the way you do your job in order to glorify Him through it.
Think about Zacchaeus. As a tax collector he was living in sin, then Jesus called him. He did not quit his job, he just changed the way he was doing it. Zacchaeus modified his actions in his current situation so that he could glorify God through it.
Most of the time that is all God wants of us as well. He has called you to make a difference in the lives of those around you. Let them see the change that took place in you and Love them as you change your actions to glorify God.
