Mark 13:37 – “What I say to you I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”
Jesus
tells a story of a man that has a large estate. He has servants that work for
him and he is preparing to go on a long journey. Before he goes he assigns each
one a specific task that he expects them to complete or take care of while he
is away. These tasks are different for each one depending on their ability.
Now
that the owner is gone each servant has a choice to make. Their master is no
longer watching over them to make sure they are doing what they are supposed
to. They can choose to be faithful or to goof off and have a good time. Nobody
knows how long the master will be gone, just that it will be awhile.
We have
this same choice. When Jesus left the earth He told us that He will return, but
even He does not know when it will be. Each one of us has been given a task to
do. There is something that God has called you to do and only you can fulfill
it. Your job is to complete it before He returns.
Will
you be ready? Are you just goofing off and having a good time? Or are you being
faithful to what the Lord has called you to? God desires that all people be
saved and come to know Him and He has called you to spread the news.
There
are people in your world that only you can touch. We must be like the good and
faithful servant in Jesus story and always be ready for His return. No one
knows the day or the hour, so we must always be prepared. One day you will be
going about your business, the next it will be too late. As Jesus said,
“Watch!” and be ready.
